  1. To TVHA Board members: Please stop the brush removal on Timberton Drive below the houses on Timber Heights. Let me explain my reasons. When Pope wanted to create the Master Resort, one of the requirements was that the open spaces remain natural. Removing native vegetation is not what is considered natural. Those bushes, e.g. salmon berries, ferns and others provide vital food supply for our visiting and resident birds, bees and other wildlife. The bushes are attractive, this clearcutting of bushes creates an eyesore. All our actions have consequences, We are not the only creatures that live on this earth. I will give one example how our negligent behavior affected one bird species: Years ago we had redwing black birds that nested every year in the retention pond across from the Bay Club. One year Timberton mowed around the pond at the height of the bird nesting season. The blackbirds went crazy trying to protect their young. That was the last of the blackbirds. They abandoned that pond and have not been see since. Now we are doing the same up on Timberton drive. The Swainson’s thrush that delights us with their beautiful song in the summer, are declining in numbers in Western Washington.. but until now we have had a them singing for us in Timberton. They are very dependent for food on the berries that until now we have had in our village. With the clearing of the bushes along Timberton drive lining the ravine, and now the removal of their food source below Timber Heights, I fear we will no longer hear those beautiful birds in our area. So please think carefully about the consequences. Is it worth loosing these wonderful animals that delight us just to have a cleared landscape? We in Timberton are the caretakers of the largest ” real estate” in the Port Ludlow Master resort. We must guard it with care and thoughtfulness. What has attracted people in the past to Timberton? It is the areas of semi wildness, trees and wild life that enriches our live and the lives.
Other negative affects is the increase noise of weed whacking. Silent spaces ( silent of human noise) is increasingly hard to find. The mechanical noise in Timberton has increased tremendously since I first moved here. Noise pollution is also bad for our health. Who knows how it affects the animals?
It seems just a few people have wanted this clearing. This is a community and the community should decide how they want to treat our beautiful lands. This should be presented to all of us and get opinions form al of us. So please stop this RIGHT NOW and get the opinion of the neighborhood
