Those of us who have lived in Timberton for five years or longer remember the “building years” when it seemed a new house went up every month.
You could always tell which houses were under construction because they each had a port-a-pottie in front of them.
At one time, a total of 6 potties stood in various parts of Timberton – so many that we thought maybe that should become the mascot of our village.
Former village President Tom Carter always said that he wanted to toast the departing truck when the last port-a-pottie was hauled away. At his suggestion, a group gathered to drink a champagne toast on that day in the summer of 2006.
Thank goodness, the port-a-pottie did not become our mascot! That honor belongs to the bobcat because in 2004 a bobcat lived in the woods between McKenzie and Leighbrook.
